How to hire before you are desperate

Most owners know they need help long before they hire. They wait because hiring feels expensive, risky, and time consuming. By the time they start, they are already behind, which means they hire fast and regret slowly.

The better pattern is to hire one role earlier than you think you need it. Not two. Not a reorganization. One person who can take a specific pile of work off your desk before that pile starts costing you clients.

The job description matters more than most people think. A vague post attracts vague candidates. Be specific about the work, the standards, and the outcome you are buying. A good candidate should read it and know exactly whether they can do it.

Interview for the work, not the personality. Nice is easy to fake in an hour. Competence at the actual tasks is what you will live with every day after the hire.

Hiring is not a reward for being busy. It is a strategic move you make while you still have the margin to choose well.
